1054
was built at Crewe works of the London & North Western Railway in 1888. It was withdrawn from service in 1958
and purchased privately before being donated to the National Trust. 1054 is currently undergoing its third periodic
overhaul in our workshop. The project is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund,
without whose help the locomotive may not have been able to return to steam in its former glory.
Visitors are most welcome to view progress on this locomotive from the viewing area on the mezzanine level as The Workshop is normally closed to visitors. However, upon specific request it may
be possible to gain access, provided a guide is available, and the type of work in hand
permits such a visit within our health and safety policy.
Group visits are available by prior arrangement
Our new dedicated Coaltank Webb Site will shortly be steaming along, check
www.coaltank.co.uk for further
details about the restoration of this unique locomotive.
